Refunds & Cancellations

Last updated September 26, 2026

What to do if a purchase on Circl needs to be cancelled or refunded — your rights under BC consumer protection law, what Circl does automatically today, and how to reach a person for everything else.

01The short version

If you bought a ticket or a membership on Circl and something isn't right — the event didn't happen, you were never properly told what you were paying for, or you just want out — you have real rights under British Columbia's Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (BPCPA), and nothing in Circl's Terms of Service can take them away.

Tickets and memberships are bought in the Circl app, not on this website. What circlhq.com does hold is the record: once you're signed in, Account → Payments lists your receipts, and Account → Memberships lets you cancel a paid membership yourself.

There's no self-serve “Request a refund” button anywhere in Circl yet — not in the app, not on this website. Until there is, every refund request is handled by a person: email support@circlhq.com and we'll sort it out.

1Your right to cancel the purchase

Under BPCPA s.49, if you weren't given the information a seller is legally required to give you before you paid — or weren't given a proper copy of the contract — you're entitled to cancel:

  • Within 7 days of getting a contract copy, if you were given one but it was missing required information.
  • Within 30 days of the contract date, if you were never given a contract copy at all.

Circl does give you that information before you pay. The checkout screen names who you're buying from and, for an event, the host organizing and delivering it; states the total and what it covers; sets out the refund and cancellation policy in full; and tells you what happens if the host cancels. You have to confirm you've read it before you can pay, and that confirmation — together with the version of the Terms of Service it applied to — is recorded against your purchase before any payment is taken. Afterwards, a dated and numbered receipt is saved to Account → Payments.

What isn't finished yet: the receipt doesn't yet carry the complete written copy of the contract for every kind of purchase. So if something the law requires was missing from what you were shown at checkout, or from the record you were given afterwards, the cancellation right above is still yours — email support@circlhq.com and we'll honor it.

2If what you paid for was never supplied

If a service you paid for — a ticket to an event, for example — isn't supplied within 30 days of the date it was promised, you can cancel and get your money back. This applies whether the event quietly never happened, was indefinitely delayed, or the host simply went dark.

3Cooling-off and material changes

BPCPA s.25 also gives you a cooling-off window to cancel a contract after signing up, and a right to cancel if the deal materially changes from what you were told — for example, the price, the date, or what's actually included changes after you already paid.

If a host changes the terms of what you bought after you've paid for it, you don't have to accept the new deal.

4How fast a refund has to happen

Once a cancellation under any of the rights above takes effect, BC law requires the refund within 15 days. That clock starts when you give notice of cancellation, not when it's processed on our end — so tell us as soon as you decide to cancel.

5When a host cancels or postpones an event

If a host cancels an entire event, everyone who bought a paid ticket is refunded in full automatically — including the platform fee and any refundable deposit. Everyone who RSVP'd is notified.

If a host postpones or reschedules an event instead of cancelling it outright, there's no automatic refund yet for members who no longer want to attend the new date — email support@circlhq.com and we'll process it manually. The same goes for cancelling a single ticket while the event itself is still happening: it isn't a self-serve action in the app today, so we do it by hand on request.

If you leave a Circl, that on its own does not cancel a paid membership subscription — it only removes your membership from that Circl's roster. To stop the billing, cancel the membership itself under Account → Memberships on this website. That stops the next renewal and your access runs to the end of the period you've already paid for; it is not a refund of what you've already been charged. Cancelling can't be undone from the website, so if you change your mind, email support@circlhq.com.

6Credit card chargebacks (BPCPA s.52)

If you're owed a refund under a right described on this page and don't receive it, BC law also lets you ask your credit card issuer to reverse the charge. That request generally has to be made within about two billing cycles (roughly 90 days) of when you could first make it — so don't wait too long if a refund isn't showing up.

This is a right against your card issuer, separate from — and in addition to — asking Circl directly. Asking us first is usually faster.

7How to request a refund or cancellation today

Email support@circlhq.com with your name, the Circl and event (or membership tier) involved, and what you'd like — a cancellation, a refund, or both. Mention if you believe one of the rights above applies; we'll confirm either way.

Honest state of the product: there's no refund button — not in the app, not here. Every request above is handled by a person reading their email, not an automated flow. Cancelling a paid membership is the one thing you can do for yourself, under Account → Memberships; anything that moves money back to you is done by hand on request.

Not legal advice

This page summarizes rights under British Columbia's Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act in plain language for Circl users — it isn't a substitute for legal advice. For guidance on your specific situation, contact Consumer Protection BC or a lawyer.
